Hiking on the West Coast and Marstrand

For those looking for a greater challenge, there is the more demanding trail that leads you up stairs and cliffs, while you can choose a calmer walk adapted for, among other things, strollers if you want to take it a little easier. But that’s not all – you can also deviate from the main trails to discover places like Nålsögat, a narrow passage between two boulders on the way out to Skallens Fyr. And at the top of the island rises Carlstens Fästning, which is certainly well worth a visit.

Visit Carlsten Fortress
Carlsten Fortress rises mightily above the capital of sailing. Here, where pirates and hijackers once ravaged, the infamous great thief Lasse-Maja was imprisoned. Herring barons and merchants built their large houses with punch verandas and carpenter’s delight. For over 350 years, the fortress has stood as a landmark over Marstrand Island, shaping the island’s life, silhouette and history. The fortress is well preserved and bears traces of bygone times.
